Full Cleans: a Full-Body Workout

Last evening my buddy Jason joined me in my garage for some cleans.   After a good warmup and some light reps, here was the workout:

12 minute countdown:

#135 full clean, 4 reps

That was it.  Pretty simple, and a chance to fire some fast-twitch muscles with some explosive reps.  Today I’m a bit sore in the traps, quads, glutes, and core.  That is a lot of bang for your buck.  Short, tough workout with lots of payoff.

Part of the reason that this is so beneficial is because of the range of motion for a quality repetition.  On a clean, you start with the barbell on the ground and explosively bring it to the rack position, up at your chest.  The power comes from the legs and the shrug.  I love it.
