On Saturday, I watched my beloved Washington State Cougars drop yet another tough basketball game to UCLA on TV. My plan was to work out during halftime, but instead I opted for a less…fun option. Read on for more. It looked like this:
EVERY TIME OUT of the second half of the basketball game, do kettlebell clean/front squat/press combination ladders up to 3 rungs.
“Ladder,” you ask? That means doing one left, one right, two left, two right, then three left, three right without rest. That’s one ladder. I did one of those every full time out and media time out (like all commercial breaks). For the 30-second time outs, I “only” did up to two rungs. I ended up doing probably eight or nine ladders in about 40 minutes or so. It was a fun variety, and it sort of removes the excuse of not having time, or that you’re too busy watching the game to exercise.
An alternative is just to do pushups or squats during commercial breaks of your favorite sitcom. We’d love to have you share your favorite plans and strategies in the comment section below!

Back in the summer when Brian was away at OCS, I would put on my tv shows and then on my laptop next to the tv I would have my Jillian Michaels Shred DVD going, so I was doing the shred while watching tv. It made the shred go by much faster! Now I just save my tv shows for when I am running on the treadmill!

Such a good idea and a way to make the time go faster!

The best strategy is probably whichever one you’ll actually use. Good idea on the laptop thing. Anything to take my mind off of working out. This is weird, but I’ll even listen to sermons or other messages on the computer when I’m doing kettlebell workouts. I think that officially makes me a nerd. Most guys crank metal or loud rap or something. I listen to messages and get equally fired up. And the time totally passes more quickly, it seems.
