Sales rarely get better than during and after the holidays, whether it be for gifts or groceries. This particular time is the time to start stocking up on baking items. For instance this week WinCo has the 16 oz. of Planters Walnuts for $3.98!! You just don’t see that price anymore. This kind of pricing typically happens around the holidays, so if you know that, you can plan to spend more on groceries now, knowing that in January you’ll be buying less. So now is the time to purchase baking chips, flour, sugar, nuts, etc….
I stockpile so I can go “shopping” at my house, as I call it. You all know in stockpiling to wait for the lowest prices. If you can combine that sale with a coupon, even better. One problem with coupons is that there are not many coupons for more natural and nourishing foods. And we RARELY see coupons for produce.
A few of the items I keep stockpiled in my pantry are spaghetti sauce, pasta, canned veggies, varieties of beans, cereal, bottled juice, juice boxes for the kids, tuna, tea, and more. We buy meat when it’s on sale and freeze it like whole chickens and turkeys, ground beef, ground turkey, etc…. We also freeze butter, deli meat, tortillas, pumpkin, applesauce, and more, plus we have a few meals frozen.
Besides needing to shop for perishables each week, you’ll NEVER have to go and buy groceries full price for a meal you are preparing for that day, because you will have thought ahead and made purchases at a good price.
So go look through your pantry and make a list of what you need. Be on the lookout. I can’t sing the praises of thinking ahead loud enough: ‘Think ahead, think ahead, think ahead, la, la, la.” Maybe I’ll go write a song now…
