Easy and Basic Hummus

There’s nothing like fresh hummus~so tasty!

Easy Hummus

Are you going to any holiday gatherings soon where you need to bring some appetizers?  Want something quick to throw together that doesn’t taste so quick?  This might be the perfect recipe for you!

Easy Basic Hummus

Hummus is a great way to get protein and a great dip for your raw veggies.  When I first saw thought about eating hummus, I thought this should be eaten with crackers only. I had only eaten it a couple of time before in junior high. Then I had to shift my paradigm when I saw hummus pictured with vegetables.  Of course this would be great with vegetables! The more ways I can get vegetables in for my family, the better.

This recipe is adapted from the Vitamix Whole Foods Recipes Book. I haven’t been a big fan of chickpeas in the past, so I prefer LOTS of garlic to cover the taste of them. It works! This is a great dip, and I have to admit now that the chickpeas are growing on me…

Easy Hummus

The Verdict: The hummus is so smooth and creamy!  The kids love eating their raw veggies with the hummus! If I don’t have sesame seeds, no worries. I make it without and it still tastes great! This makes a lot of hummus, so feel free to halve the recipe.

  1. I love the recipe, but I have to recommend that you try it with dry beans. You can make a velvety smooth hummus for less than a third of the cost using dried beans! It takes a bit longer with the soaking and cooking, but I’ve found it’s well worth it for the cost savings. I added a pinch of baking soda to the soaking and cooking liquid, and the chickpeas cooked up like a dream- give it a try!

    1. Hi Christy, I totally agree with you! Homemade soaked and cooked beans are so much more frugal, and you know what’s going into your food. I haven’t done chickpeas yet, but they are on my to-do list. I just started soaking this year!
