Thrifty Thinking: Frugal Gift Giving
Especially around Christmas we are constantly reminding our children that we are giving gifts because God gave His Son Jesus as a gift to us, that we may receive the free gift of salvation. We give gifts to each in celebration of God’s gift to us.
There are so many thoughts out there about giving gifts, and in giving, we shouldn’t be concerned with what the world thinks of our gifts. Did we spend enough money? Is it big enough? Are there ‘enough’ gifts? Are the gifts good enough? PLEASE don’t go in debt over this. I cannot think of a good enough reason to go in debt over gift giving. If you don’t have the money for gifts, don’t spend!! Refrain! Stop! Tell yourself, ‘NO!’ Rather, be a good steward.
I believe the most important aspect of gift giving is the thoughtfulness toward another individual. With this thought, it almost doesn’t matter what you give them. Yet, it is even better if you can give a gift that is specifically tailored to the individual on the receiving end.
If you have limited resources, you can consider giving the gift of your time, maybe making coupons for cleaning different aspects of the house, making a meal, washing the car, etc. You get the point.
Do most of the people around you seem to have everything or are difficult to buy a gift for? Particularly in these cases I love giving gifts of food and homemade goods. Here are links to a few of my favorite recipes I enjoy giving as gifts.
If you can be generous at all, by all means, be generous. Have fun thinking about others. By blessing others, you, in return, will be blessed.
