Do you use cloth diapers? Cloth wipes? I first started making my own solution for the cloth wipes when my friend Mo gave me some reusable wipes for my birthday (she knows I am the kind of nerd that would eventually get excited about something like this)! It took me a while to get in the habit of using the cloth wipes, and I’ve been using them for years now!
I have to admit that I am to the point of just using water instead of a wipes solution, but I do use the vinegar and tea tree oil in my dry diaper pail. I thought a few of you might be interested in this, though, so I provided a couple of different recipes below.
Currently I store my wipes dry, and I wet them with water as needed. I do HIGHLY recommend storing the wipes dry, as you don’t want them to mold. If you want to store them wet, then I would use the 2nd wipes solution recipe. Add more vinegar as needed. Vinegar won’t cause the wipes to smell after they are washed.
Tea Tree Oil Wipes Solution Recipe
The Ingredients:
2 cups water
1 T baby wash, optional
3-6 drops lavender oil, optional, for scent
4 drops tea tree oil
The Instructions:
Mix all ingredients.
Store in a baby wipes container or container of choice that won’t leak.
Hard Core-Cut the-Stench Wipes Solution (if you leave your wipes in the solution)
The Ingredients:
2 cups water
2-4 T white vinegar
4 drops tea tree oil

Great tutorial on making the baby wipes! I used/use cloth diapers on all 3 of my children but always used disposable wipes. I’m not exactly sure why I never used cloth wipes, but I’m tired of going to Costco and want to save money. My question is since you store the wipes dry, do you have container of water on the changing table?
I used to keep a container of water nearby, but that got to be too messy…and a general hassle. In more recent years we’ve just done the bulk of the diaper changing in the bathroom where we could easily access the water for the dry baby wipes and dispose of solid waste from the diapers in the toilet. That worked for us; we happened to have enough available counter space to change a baby. Others could change the baby on the floor. Good question. 🙂
I bought my cloth baby wipes from a shop on Etsy. I really love them and find them to work better than disposable ones (as is the case with most sustainable alternatives). I just use plain water as a wipes solution and so far it works great. I’m not quite sure if this will work once baby starts more solids, but we’ll see!
