Target Grocery Prices to Meet or Beat
How much do you spend on your bananas? How about apples? Spinach? Knowing the cost of food helps keep in the reigns of the grocery budget. Do you know how much you spend on different foods?
Well, if you don’t know the target prices, it’s time to start paying attention. Some people like to keep a notebook and update it as they shop. You can use my list here as a starting point. Here are the prices that I look for in the Pacific Northwest of Washington State. These are some of our favorite foods and staples. I also included some prices of foods I no longer buy like whole chickens (I buy organic drumsticks now).
If you don’t know the costs of the groceries you buy and just mindlessly purchase, I want to strongly urge you to learn the target prices of the food items you buy most.
All of the grocery prices I have listed below are approximate and come from Snohomish County, Washington, reflecting prices that I have seen in the last 6 months. I VERY RARELY buy these groceries above these given prices.
Since some of you may want to know exactly where I find these prices, I have indicated the stores where I buy the particular food.
- “C” indicates Costco
- “W” indicates Winco
- “TJs” indicates Trader Joe’s (go here to see how to start the process of bringing a Trader Joe’s to your area)

I found you through today’s link up. What a great resource. I’m going to do something similar for Australian prices. I’ve been comparing Costco, Aldi, Woolworths and Coles. Costco is very new in Australia and even Aldi is only just gaining momentum so there is not as much competition for prices.

Hi Michelle. Awesome! So glad you are going to be writing your own list. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for this list and your Costco price list. So helpful!
Where do you get your dates? They had a tub for a great price at Costco, but now mine (Phoenix area) has stopped carrying them (except for some expensive fancy ones). I’ve been buying them at Sprouts, but they’re like $4.49/lb., and that’s for chopped dates rolled in oat flour, which I don’t like as well for making your 3-ingredient larabar copycats. I can only hope they will come back to Costco at Christmas time.
Sonja says
Hi Deb. We get our dates at WinCo. I have only seen dates at Costco one time, and I was soooo excited because they were a better price and they weren’t in the bulk foods (I buy bulk foods, but they are iffy at times). Hope you have a great week, and I hope this helps!

Where do you get your old fashioned oats from? (I didn’t see a letter beside them). I love looking at other people’s prices! Thank you for posting this.
Sonja says
Hi Kristie. They are available at WinCo for that price. You are welcome!

Wow. I can’t even come close to those prices! But it’s where I live.
What are the items in bold for? I coudn’t find an explanation for that.
I pretty much know the prices for the items I get and for the raw ingredients I make. 🙂 Helps with planning meals and such.
Thanks for posting this!
